Shealy clears waivers, sent to Omaha

The Royals sent first baseman Ryan Shealy to Triple-A Omaha this morning after the slugger cleared waivers. It was a bit of a surprise Shealy, who has shown flashes of power in his short major league career, actually cleared waivers. The Royals now have 31 players remaining in camp. They will need to cut that number down to 25 by 2 p.m. Sunday.

I sort-of agree that it was a small surprise he cleared waivers. However, the Royals have been hanging onto him until late in Spring Training in order to slip him through easier.

They're doing the same thing with Shane Costa. He'll be put on waivers tomorrow and when he clears he'll be given his one outright assignment to Omaha...keeping him in the organization one more year.

Pretty good tactics really.
